How to Compare Bangkok Fertility Clinics for PGT: Checklist

By ThailandClinics · Published October 14, 2026

To compare Bangkok fertility clinics for PGT (preimplantation genetic testing), check seven things. These are the types of PGT offered, where the testing happens, the lab's equipment and certifications, who does the embryo biopsy, a per-embryo price, success rates for PGT-tested transfers by age, and what Thai law lets the clinic test for. Ask every clinic the same questions in writing, and the differences show up quickly.

Updated 14 October 2026. Clinic details are taken from each clinic's own published information. Confirm everything in writing before you book.

This page covers what's specific to genetic testing. For general advice on picking a fertility clinic, such as doctors, English support and red flags, see our guide to choosing a fertility clinic in Bangkok.

The PGT checklist

The ThailandClinics 7-point PGT checklist
  1. PGT typesDoes it offer the test you need?
  2. Where it's testedIn-house lab or sent out?
  3. The labTime-lapse, witnessing, ISO 15189, ESHRE
  4. The biopsyWho does it, and how often?
  5. Price per embryoBiopsy, test, freezing, storage
  6. Success dataLive births per PGT-tested transfer, by age
  7. Thai lawNo sex selection; medical use only
Use the same seven checks for every clinic, and ask for the answers in writing.

1. Which type of PGT do you need, and does the clinic offer it?

PGT comes in three main tests, and not every Bangkok clinic offers all three:

  • PGT-A (aneuploidy): screens embryos for the wrong number of chromosomes. It's the most common test, usually suggested if you're 37 or older or have had repeated miscarriages or failed transfers.
  • PGT-M (monogenic): tests for one specific inherited condition, such as thalassaemia or cystic fibrosis. The lab usually has to build a custom test for your family first, which adds weeks.
  • PGT-SR (structural rearrangement): for couples where one partner carries a chromosomal translocation or inversion.

If you only need PGT-A, most established Bangkok clinics can do it. If you need PGT-M or PGT-SR, your shortlist gets much shorter.

The three types of PGT
PGT-A
Aneuploidy
  • Checks embryos for the wrong number of chromosomes
  • The most common test
  • Often suggested from age 37, or after repeated miscarriage or failed transfers
PGT-M
Monogenic
  • Tests for one known inherited condition, e.g. thalassaemia
  • The lab usually builds a test for your family first
  • Adds weeks to the timeline
PGT-SR
Structural rearrangement
  • For a partner who carries a translocation or inversion
  • Offered by fewer clinics
  • In Bangkok: MedPark and VFC list it
PGT means preimplantation genetic testing: a lab test on IVF embryos before transfer. Whether you need it is a decision for you and your fertility doctor.

2. Is the genetic testing done in-house or sent out?

Some clinics biopsy the embryo and send the sample to an outside genetics lab. Others test in their own lab. Both can work. In-house testing usually means faster results and one team to ask when a result is unclear. Ask which lab runs the test, which method it uses (NGS is the current standard for PGT-A), and how long results take.

3. What equipment and certifications does the lab have?

PGT only helps if embryos survive culture to day 5 or 6 and the biopsy is done well. Look for named equipment: time-lapse incubators (EmbryoScope, Geri) and an electronic witnessing system that tracks every dish. For certifications, ask what is certified. JCI usually covers a hospital, ISO 15189 covers a laboratory, and ESHRE certification is held by individual embryologists. A hospital's JCI badge tells you little about its IVF lab.

4. Who does the embryo biopsy?

The PGT biopsy, which removes a few cells from a day-5 or day-6 embryo, is a skilled job. Ask how many biopsies the lab does a year and whether a senior embryologist does them. A lab that biopsies embryos every day is a safer bet than one that does it occasionally.

5. Is PGT priced per embryo?

PGT pricing in Bangkok varies more than IVF pricing does. Some clinics charge per embryo and some sell PGT inside a package. Ask for:

  • the price for the first embryo and for each additional one
  • whether the biopsy fee is separate from the test fee
  • the cost of freezing and a year of storage, because tested embryos are always frozen while you wait for results
  • the cost of the frozen embryo transfer that follows
How a PGT cycle runs
  1. IVF + egg retrievalStimulation, then eggs collected and fertilised
  2. Culture to day 5–6Embryos grow to the blastocyst stage
  3. BiopsyA few outer cells are removed from each embryo
  4. FreezeEvery biopsied embryo is frozen
  5. Test resultsUsually 1–3 weeks
  6. Frozen transferIn a later cycle, using a tested embryo
Typical sequence. Timings vary by clinic and by test: PGT-M can take longer.

6. Will the clinic show success rates for PGT-tested transfers, by age?

For PGT success data, ask for the live-birth rate per transfer of a PGT-tested embryo, for your age group. Clinic averages that mix all ages, or "pregnancy rates" counted from a positive test, look higher than the number that matters. No clinic can guarantee a baby, and a clinic that implies it can is one to avoid.

7. What will Thai law allow the clinic to test for?

Thailand's assisted reproduction law (the ART Act of 2015) allows genetic testing of embryos where it's medically necessary, but it must not be used to choose a baby's sex. A clinic offering sex selection is breaking the law. If you carry a sex-linked condition, such as haemophilia or Duchenne muscular dystrophy, bring your genetic report and ask the clinic how it handles your case under Medical Council rules.

Thailand's ART Act also currently limits IVF to legally married husband-and-wife couples. A draft amendment that would open treatment to all married spouses went to public consultation in July 2026, but it has not become law yet.

Genesis Fertility Center is the only clinic here that publishes a per-embryo PGT price, so you can work out your cost before your first consultation: testing 4 embryos comes to ฿87,600. Bangkok Hospital publishes a fixed ฿96,000 PGT-A package. If you need PGT-M or PGT-SR for a known genetic condition, MedPark and VFC both list all three tests, so start there.

Questions to send every clinic

Copy these into one email and send the same email to each clinic:

  1. Which PGT types do you offer (PGT-A, PGT-M, PGT-SR), and which method do you use?
  2. Is testing done in your own lab? If not, which lab, and how long do results take?
  3. Who does the embryo biopsy, and how many biopsies does your lab do a year?
  4. What do you charge per embryo for biopsy and testing, and what does freezing and storage cost?
  5. What is your live-birth rate per transfer of a PGT-tested embryo for someone my age?
  6. What happens, and what do I pay, if no embryos are suitable for testing or transfer?

FAQ

What accreditations should a Bangkok clinic have for PGT?

Look at the lab, not just the building. ISO 15189 covers a medical laboratory. ESHRE certification shows individual embryologists have passed Europe's main exam. JCI usually accredits a whole hospital. Ask each clinic exactly what its certificates cover and when they expire.

How much does PGT cost in Bangkok?

It depends on how many embryos you test. Genesis Fertility Center publishes ฿39,900 for the first embryo and ฿15,900 for each additional one. Bangkok Hospital publishes a ฿96,000 PGT-A package. Most other clinics quote PGT individually, so ask for a per-embryo price.

Does PGT improve IVF success rates?

PGT-A can lower the chance of transferring an embryo with the wrong number of chromosomes, which is a common cause of failed transfers and miscarriage, especially after 37. It doesn't make an embryo healthier, and it may leave you with fewer embryos to transfer. Ask your doctor whether it helps in your case.

Can I choose my baby's sex with PGT in Thailand?

No. Thai law prohibits using embryo testing to select a baby's sex. If you carry a serious sex-linked inherited disease, discuss it with the clinic and bring your genetic report, because medical cases are handled under Medical Council rules.

How long do PGT results take?

Results usually take one to three weeks after the biopsy. Your embryos are frozen in the meantime, and the transfer happens in a later cycle. PGT-M can take longer, because the lab may need to build a test for your family's condition first.
